Sermon Series: Revelation
I am finishing my ministry at HTD by directing our attention to the throne of heaven, the control room of history so we may be strengthened to endure in faith, full of love, strong in hope to our lives’ end.
Revelation is a vision given by the risen Jesus, to John, for the benefit of his contemporaries and all who read this book, including us. His contemporaries, in churches like Ephesus, Laodicea, and Smyrna, were for various reasons struggling in faith. Persecution against believers was happening. Dying for the faith was a real possibility. Some were losing their first love and becoming lukewarm in faith, Some were more severely compromised.
So this vision of the glory of God in heaven, of robes washed white in the blood of the lamb, of a multitude no one can number gathered round the throne of grace, of the final victory of the lamb over Satan and his minions, of the overthrow of the beast, of a heaven of peace, joy and praise, ought to stir us up to endure, full of love, uncompromised in faith, and ardent in hope. Let us fix our eyes on the glorious majesty of God.
