The Crux: Discussion Material

“The Crux” is a Easter sermon series at the 6pm service, focussing on the death of Jesus, and what it achieved.

“Crux” is a Latin word which refers to the decisive or most important point at issue. It also literally means cross.

As Christians we believe that the Cross of Jesus is the literal crux of human history. It’s the most decisive and important event that has ever taken place.

Starting 1st August, HTD’s 6pm service will be journeying through the book of Ephesians with the theme “God Gives”. What does God give? Life, Hope, Grace, Power, Unity, Light, Roles and Strength.

A prophet refuses God’s commands, flees across the waters, is thrown overboard by zealous pagan sailors, saved by a giant fish and cast up on a beach.

So begins one of the Bible’s most famous stories, one which has intrigued Christian readers for centuries. Is Jonah a Christ-like figure, spending three days in the belly of the whale before being sent to save a lost city? Or is he a disobedient sulker whom God teaches a lesson about love and mercy?

Join us as our senior pastor Andrew Reid follows Jonah’s journey to the city of Nineveh. He considers what God might be teaching Jonah through the voyage, and what lessons we ourselves can learn about God’s compassion, his power and his patience.
