…so what’s on offer for children at HTD?

On Sundays…

Here are some of the ways children are provided for in our regular Sunday services. The following take place during the 10am English speaking service and the 1:30pm Mandarin service:

Kid’s Talks and Songs

For: all ages

Children are included in church services especially during their own dedicated “kid’s spot” each week. Talks are related to the content of the sermon using language people of all ages can understand. Kids can sit at the front (and parents too!) to be involved in this fun learning time which may include multimedia displays, skits, puppets, or any number of interesting means of communication!

Sunday School

For: children from Kinder age through to Grade 6.
(All weeks except Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday)

HTD is a place where primary aged kids can be learning from leaders who have a desire to teach kids from the Bible in engaging ways. Children from all backgrounds (including those new to a church) are welcomed to join with other kids in a similar age group to hear amazing Bible stories, learn relevant Christian principles and discover more about Jesus the one who saves!

Supervised Crèche and Crying Room

For: parents of very young children.

These are available for children aged between 1 and 3 years. In the Supervised Creche, toddlers play with play dough,  toys and enjoy a simple program each week. The “Crying Room’ is a place where parents can let their babies play and still be able to hear and see what’s happening in the service.

All Age Service

For: all ages.
(Once per term at the 10am English service)

What does it look like to have a grandfather worship God with his toddler granddaughter, or a mother with her teenage son? The all age service is where this happens- not exclusively of course, but deliberately. These services are intended to be accessible to people of all ages especially children and involve a change in format such as shorter sermons, special items, songs comfortable to various age groups, and a tangible sense of belonging to God’s family.

Special Celebration Services

Easter Saturday (early evening) and Christmas Eve (early evening)
For: all children and their parents.

Join with the children to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Eve, or to remember his sacrificial love at Easter: “Out of the mouths of babes and infants God has ordained praise”. (Matt 21:16) Children are actively involved in these special services with songs, dramas, readings, and enthusiastically giving thanks to God!

During the Week…

Playgroup

Boys will be boys- but girls just wanna have fun!

If you’re a girl aged 8-12 years old then HTD Girl’s Group is for you! We aim to provide an environment where girls can have fun learning about Jesus, make new friends, and just really enjoy being girls!

We meet: Wednesday nights during school terms, from 7:00pm– 8:30pm, in the HTD crèche. Cost: $2.50 per week.

What can you look forward to at Girl’s Group? Playing games, making all kinds of fantastic crafts, learning about who Jesus is and why being friends with him makes life so much better, cooking scrumptious goodies, crazy theme nights: all kinds of fun things! Culture nights are always amazing, with different foods, dress ups, photos, and new games and customs…

What else? There’s our Girl’s Only Karaoke Party, the awesome Girl’s Group & jCEBS camp and the hilarious Family Fun Night. Once a term we do an excursion, often with the junior CEBS boys. We’ve been roller blading, on adventures in the park, to movies at IMAX, bowling, mini golfing, on the twisty slide at the aqua center, been treasure hunting in the park, stayed up waaay too late at the sleepover, made jewellery at a beading shop and there’s plenty more fun to come!

Want more info? Download the current program, or call Sharon on 0413 057 499. Leaders have current Working with Children and Police Checks.

We can’t wait to meet you- see you Wednesday!

Junior CEBSJCEBS Logo

CEBS means Church of England Boys Society. Junior CEBS- or jCEBS- at HTD means crazy fun for boys age 8-12!

Come along and join us Wednesday nights during school terms, from 7pm to 8.30pm in the back hall. It only costs $2.00 per night.

This is a group run entirely for boys- no girls allowed! We play loads of sports and wide games like capture the flag, do crazy things with common household items, build giant box towers then compete to knock them down. We’ve taken our bikes on the ”Tour de’ HTD”, played ultimate Frisbee, had a giant flour bomb skirmish, solved mysteries from cryptic clues, hit targets far away with our handmade marshmallow shooters, and played glow-in-the-dark soccer. Not only that but we’re champions in the kitchen!

We take excursions too, once a term we combine with the Girl’s Group to go somewhere great like rock climbing, bowling, IMAX etc. Then there’s camp which we look forward to all year!

Another awesome thing about jCEBS is what we learn about Jesus, a powerful leader who came to save the world in a surprising way. Each week we learn more about who he was and what it means to be on his winning team!

If you’re up for that kind of stuff every week, check out this term’s program, or contact David on 0433 834 946.

Parent’s note: Leaders attend HTD themselves and have current Police Checks and Working With Children cards.

Throughout the Year…

BFE Magazine

BFE (Best Family Ever!) Magazine is a free newsletter produced by HTD for the school holidays that’s filled with ideas and articles to help you love your children more, have fun times together and grow closer together as a family.

January Holiday Program

Each January in the last week of school holidays we run a holiday program for school age kids over three mornings. (Parents can rush off and do those last minute things to get everything ready for school). Kids create fun things, sing cool songs, play games, eat scrumptious morning teas, meet other kids and great leaders, and most of all, learn awesome stuff about God and His Son Jesus!

Church camp

Time for the whole family to get away and enjoy spending time with other church families in beautiful Cowes, Philip Island. Church camp happens once per year, usually in February or March.

A word about child safety/How we care for your child/Keeping kids safe

A Biblical concern for the welfare of children fuels our desire to provide safe, enjoyable, and age-appropriate activities for them to participate in. Duty of care is a natural outworking of this, and is closely monitored in each group to maintain, and exceed, the standards set by the Anglican Church of Australia. All leaders have current Police Checks and Working With Children cards and were each thoroughly vetted before being offered a position on the team.
