We’re on about Jesus — knowing him better and living for him more. This is because he is the one who died to save us and rose as King of all.
To explain further, the Bible teaches us that God created and sustains the world. However, instead of giving him thanks for or even acknowledging him as God, we have ignored him and lived independently of him. Such independence is what the Bible calls ‘sin’. In Scripture God says that all have sinned and fall short of God’s perfect character. As God says in the Bible…
… all have sinned and fall short of the glory of GodRomans 3:23
Because this is our nature and state, we cannot go to heaven. After all, heaven is full of perfection and no matter how many good things we may do, we will never reach perfection. This is not great news for us, because when we die, God will hold us accountable for what we have done. Again, as God says in Scripture…
People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment
God will repay each person according to what they have doneHebrews 9:7 and Romans 2:6
Despite this there is also some great news from God. This news is that God has sent his only Son Jesus into the world for us. Jesus willingly came to die on the cross, taking the punishment that we deserve for our sins.
This means we can have our slates wiped clean, enjoy being part of God’s family now and freely enter heaven later. God did all this because he loves you. In the Bible he says…
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to GodJohn 3:16 and 1 Peter 3:18
But the good news doesn’t stop there because Jesus did not stay dead. He rose again as King of all people and offers us new life with him and the certain or ‘living’ hope of heaven.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead1 Peter 1:3
In the meantime, we have a choice. On the one hand, we can believe/trust in Jesus and receive eternal life Or, we can take the other choice, reject Jesus, and remain at odds with God. As God himself says in the Bible…
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s anger remains on himJohn 3:36
At Holy Trinity, we are a group ofordinary people from different backgrounds who share a common belief in Jesus and have the certainty of heaven before us. As we wait for this sure and certain home, we have it as our aim to care for and encourage each other to follow Jesus. We also do all that we can to help others know of Jesus or know him better.
